January 13, 2021

Ten Dental + Facial would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year, welcoming both new and existing patients to our dental clinics in Balham, Wandsworth, and Clapham High Street for 2021! As leading state of the art dentists in London, we look ahead to a brighter, healthier future, hoping to see life returning to some form of normality over time with the availability of the vaccines in place.

But for now, let’s start embracing the positives with a few new year’s resolutions. These don’t have to be a one-time promise, and if you are considering turning over a new leaf this year, then here are some of our top dental health resolutions for taking better care of your teeth and gums.

Quit Smoking

According to research published in the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, ‘Tobacco use in any form—cigarettes, pipes, and smokeless (spit) tobacco—raises your risk for gum disease’. We recognise that this is not an easy habit to kick, but it is one of the most beneficial resolutions to uphold for improving your overall physical and even mental health.

There are loads of free online resources and practical tracking apps to help for smoking cessation such as the NHS Better Health. Soliciting the support received from friends and family at home, or even your local GP during this unprecedented time is also vital when it comes to combating cravings.

Focus on flossing

Removing plaque from all those hard-to-reach places in between your teeth can be difficult if you simply brush them twice a day. Daily flossing plays a key role in your oral hygiene routine for effective prevention against periodontal disease, tooth decay and halitosis (or bad breath). If you’ve missed out on flossing, start now. Don’t forget, you can floss on the go with a container kept in your purse, pocket or bag for a long-lasting, fresh feeling.

Upgrade your toothbrush

Are your toothbrush’s bristles looking a little frayed? Then it’s time for an upgrade. If you have sensitive teeth, or are prone to vigorous brushing, then a soft-bristled manual or electrical tooth brush combined with fluoride paste will give you maximum results for clean teeth. Plus, it’s always a good idea to change your tooth brush every 3 – 4 months, especially during cold and flu season to fight off bacteria.

Touch-up your smile

2021 is the year for transformation and if you are looking to improve the appearance of your smile, or in need of correcting any dental issues such as overcrowding or crooked teeth, at Ten Dental + Facial we offer a wide range of cosmetic and orthodontic treatments.

Plus, we’ve got an offer that you don’t want to miss out on!

Visit your dentist regularly

Finally, one dental health resolution that is an absolute must is checking your calendar and remembering to book for a routine dental appointment as early as possible. All too often many of us forget that a regular visit to the dentist is the best policy in monitoring the condition of your oral health throughout the year, and spotting any early signs of gum disease or even oral cancer. This helps us to develop a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs for a smile you can be proud to show.

Make your dream smile come true

There’s no time like the present and we hope these dental health resolutions are the first step in ensuring 2021 is going to be your year. Call us now for an initial consultation or to learn more about our latest offer.
