Look after your mental wellbeing

Recent months have had a massive impact on mental wellbeing for people across the UK. The restrictions of lockdown coupled with concern for the health of family and friends may have, understandably, caused a lot of stress. To look after your health in these difficult times, it is important that you take a few moments to restore your mental wellbeing. Here are some ideas from our team at Ten Dental on what you can do:

Stay active

With restrictions on exercise and time spent outside the house relaxed slightly, make the most of your new-found freedom to get some fresh air. Just going for a walk every day provides a change of scenery and gets the blood pumping. Or, you could try something new – if you’re not a natural-born runner, consider the Couch to 5k training programme to get started safely. You could also have a go at tennis or golf with a friend or members of your household – just get moving again.

Keep talking

Half the battle with mental health is talking about it and seeking the support of others. Speak to your partner or call your best friend – it’s ok to not be ok sometimes and sharing how you feel can often help reduce the burden. It is also really important to stay connected to people who, so this is a chance to have a chat and make sure they are doing well too. You could even combine this with a walk in the park or down the beach – following social distancing guidelines, of course.

Eat healthily

Diet can have a massive impact on general health. If you, like us, have over-indulged in recent months, don’t worry! Now’s the time to get back to a healthy, balanced diet that provides all the nutrients your mind and body need to function properly. Perhaps get the whole family involved in cooking a meal from scratch, or try a new recipe. Get inspired by healthy ideas from different chefs, countries and cultures – you might find your new favourite Friday night meal!

Stay positive

For your own mental wellbeing, it is essential to stay positive where you can, although we appreciate this can be easier said than done. Just remember how communities throughout the UK have come together to support the NHS. Appreciate the additional time you have spent with family at home. Celebrate the freedom we all took for granted before this crisis happened. By focusing on these positives, even if only for a few moments, you can restore balance and improve your mental wellbeing.
