Looking to discreetly straighten your teeth? Ten Dental offer Invisalign across our London dental clinics in Wandsworth, Clapham High Street & Balham. Here are a few of the most frequently asked questions on Invisalign treatment.

What is Invisalign treatment?

Invisalign uses a series of clear, virtually invisible aligners to straighten teeth. Each Invisalign aligner is made specifically for your mouth and incrementally adjusts the position of your teeth, until the final desired position is achieved.

What are clear aligners made of?

Invisalign are plastic, flexible aligners that are made of non-toxic biocompatible materials that won’t irritate your mouth like metal braces might. Invisalign also comes in different sizes and is custom-made to ensure they fit correctly on your teeth without pinching your lips, cheeks or gums.

How does Invisalign treatment work?

Inside each Invisalign aligner are precisely placed bands of dental appliance adhesive (glue) that secures the clear plastic to your tooth’s surface. Every 2 weeks, you’ll be given slightly different aligners which gradually shift your teeth into place using these secure adhesives.

How are Invisalign aligners different from traditional metal braces?

Invisalign is made of smooth, medical-grade plastic that won’t snag on clothing or irritate your mouth like metal brackets and wires can. Invisalign also won’t damage tooth enamel like the brackets and bands worn during traditional orthodontic treatment – lowering the risk of tooth decay.

In addition, Invisalign clear aligners are also removable, which means you can brush, floss, eat and drink normally, without worrying about food getting stuck between the braces or brushing and flossing restrictions. Invisalign treatment allows for more discretion than traditional metal braces too, as they are virtually undetectable in your mouth when you wear them.

What types of cases does Invisalign usually treat?

Invisalign treatment can be used to correct a wide variety of orthodontic problems, from simple crowding or spacing to more complex cases involving cross bites or protruding teeth. Invisalign is also great for adults, teenagers and children who have overlapping, crooked, crowded or spaced-apart teeth. However, it is not recommended for people with severe bite problems (for example: deep bite, overbite and underbite).

How does Invisalign compare in cost and time with traditional braces?

In general, Invisalign treatment takes about half the time of traditional metal braces – 6 – 12 months instead of 24 – 36 months – but the total cost will be comparable if you plan on having your Invisalign treatment paid for by your insurance company. Invisalign prices start at £1,500 and go up depending on the number of aligners you’ll need and any additional requirements (like extractions and surgery).

How long will Invisalign last?

Invisalign is designed to last up to 12 months and you’ll only have to use the clear aligners for 20-22 hours per day. However, the exact length of time it takes for you to complete your Invisalign treatment will depend on how many aligners you’ll need and which steps in your plan we recommend taking next (especially if Invisalign will be covering Invisalign Teen or Invisalign Express).

What kind of results will I get from Invisalign?

When it comes to getting the best results from Invisalign, one thing’s for certain: the more consistently you wear your set of Invisalign aligners, the better your results will be.
